RNC wishes people would just forget Trump's part in the disaster in Afghanistan

The Internet has the potential of fulfilling a dictator’s dream of being able to falsify any record at the snap of the fingers, fulfilling George Orwell’s frightening vision in 1984. Except for things like the Wayback Machine. With enough time, a Trump dictatorship might have gotten around to banning the Wayback Machine.

Peter Weber, reporting for The Week (I read the article through MSN) cites a document from last year that claimed that “… Trump is bringing peace to the Middle East.”

One of the few areas of foreign policy President Biden and former ... Donald Trump agreed on was ending the two-decade-long war in Afghanistan. With the Taliban's effective capture of Kabul, Afghanistan's capital, it appears the war is over two weeks before Biden's deadline, with a chaotic final rush to the exit. Biden is standing by his decision to pull out U.S. forces and contractors, but the Republican Party appears to be tiptoeing backward from Trump's role.

The Republican National Committee [(RNC)] has removed a page from the 2020 campaign that says "Biden has had a history of pushing for endless wars" while "Trump has continued to take the lead in peace talks as he signed a historic peace agreement with the Taliban in Afghanistan, which would end America's longest war," The Washington Post's David Weigel noted Sunday.

Trump's secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, argued Sunday that the Trump [mal]administration had insisted the Taliban meet "a set of conditions" before the U.S. withdrew, and that the Biden administration "has failed." As the Post's Paul Kane pointed out, it's not clear Trump agrees with that.

If you click the “removed a page” link in the quotation above, you will be taken to a page from the Wayback Machine comparing the page as it stood a year ago to how it is today. A year ago, the page touted Trump’s “historic peace agreement” with the Taliban.

Now the page has been replaced with an HTTP 404 File Not Found notice. Supposedly, “you’re as lost as Biden is.” Yeah, Biden is the one whose cognitive faculties are supposedly in decline, yet no one has ever wondered if maybe he put his pants on backwards today.

There are no good options in Afghanistan. President Biden is trying to make the best out this no-win situation. I don’t know what President Hillary Clinton would have done. But something tells me she would not have released five thousand Taliban terrorists just for the sake of a 3-month cease fire. Like, you know, master deal maker and stable genius Donald Trump.

Not that any of this matters to Trump’s brainwashed supporters. We’ve always been at war with Eurasia and that war is always within measurable distance of its end.
